In 2019, the Rotary Club of Forest Lake raised $12,126 via their Summerfest fundraising event to benefit Food for His Children’s Farm and Innovation Center. In partnership with 9 other Rotary Clubs and District 5960, a total of $21,978 was donated to help build the Farm and Innovation Center in Tanzania, Africa.
The Farm and Innovation Center (FIC) will combine a working agricultural farm, training center and tourist destination to provide real life demonstrations of innovative techniques, hands on learning and a variety of thought-provoking experiences for the community, Tanzanian students, and tourists as well as providing funding for Food for His Children’s community development program. The Farm and Innovation Center will do this through dairy goat and agricultural farming; training in animal husbandry, agriculture, health, environment, leadership, savings, and entrepreneurship; and veterinary care services. The FIC will provide sustainable community development which transforms generations in Tanzania, unleashing the potential of thousands so that communities can thrive.
The FIC will impact over 110,000 people in 40 communities addressing food scarcity, extreme poverty, and climate change and training a generation how to transform their environment to one that is flourishing and producing, not simply enough for their family and their community, but the many businesses in the areas around them. The Rotary grant provided funding for the underground electrical, clean and grey water distribution, and generator for temporary electrical power during frequent power outages in a drought-stricken country that relies on hydropower for 45% of its electricity.
Phase 1 of the FIC is complete thanks to Forest Lake Rotary Club, Rotary District 5960, Rotary Club of New Prague, St. Paul Sunrise Rotary Club, Fridley-Columbia Heights Rotary Club, Rotary Club of West St. Paul-Mendota Heights, Roseville Rotary Club, Prior Lake Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Rosemount, Rotary Club of Burnsville, and the White Bear Lake Rotary Club.
Since 2008, Food for His Children (FFHC) has provided community development and humanitarian services to families and communities in rural Karatu, Tanzania, targeting those with income below $1 per day. Food for His Children works in over 40 sub villages in Karatu District serving over 600 families.
